We have spent extensive research on the water and talking with fisherman and local guides on the most productive colors.   The problem with so many colors of the spectrum to choose from and fishing conditions related to daylight variations, water turbidity, and fishing depth, makes this quite a daunting task.  We also believe color contrast is a key in attracting fish to artificial lures.   We are pleased to present you with 5 color schemes that have been very successful and more than likely you can liken to your favorite color combinations. 

RED / GOLD - This combination covers most oranges, reds, and gold, but the stark contrast in colors will over a dark / light combination at several lighting and depth variations. 

AQUA / GLOW - This is the “Match The Hatch” color for a smelt.   The glow will appear white in during the day and will offer a green luminescence during early morning and evening.   This is a great producer over 35 ft of depth as well.

PINK / SILVER - Perhaps our favorite - there is something about pink and shiny that seems to catch fish.   This color combination is quite popular and is very deserving in your tackle arsenal.

CHARTREUSE / GLOW - For any water that is stained, Chartreuse is probably the best color to use.   Altantic Salmon, Bass and Striper fisherman know that Chartruese is a go to color.   We have coupled this with the White/Pearl/Pink Glow color which provides contrast.    We like this color a lot.

PURPLE / ORANGE - This is a tremendously effective color.  The purple offers a dark back while the orange belly provides the contrast to catch fish.   We find this is a great color when nothing else is working.   A must have for all fisherman.

Comment:  The glow-in-the-dark tape is offered on spoons and trolls and will glow for hours after charging - we recommend a bright LED flashlight for about 20-30 seconds.   For flies, we use glow-in-the-dark where possible but we have substituted with white or silver.

The School O'Smelt™ down rigger troll was developed in an effort to mask the sonic signature of the down rigger weight into the trailing edge of a bait fish pod.   We feel this product is quite successful at that.   We continue to see fish caught closer and closer to the weight when using the School O'Smelt™.   We offer them in the Winni-Troll™ colors and love how they do not ride upward when trolled even at 4 MPH.  This is critical as tangled lines seem to be what we see with other types of flashers or trolls.   Each School O'Smelt™ troll has been engineered using blade vortex mathematics to reduce the sonic signature as you move to the end.  Each troll comes in a zippered plastic bag for easy storage after it is dried.

Our new Scent-Troll™ has been designed perfectly to work with the School O'Smelt™ troll, but it also has stand alone versatility.    We developed the scent-troll to allow for the application of our favorite scent gel but without having the mess at the end of a fishing trip.  We also have seen that scent applied to the lures can also offset the action especially using the thick gelled scents which we do.   The solution is the Scent-Troll™ - handy clip on leaders which a spinning plastic scent chamber.   Liberally apply your favorite scent to the plastic spinner and then just clip it on.   You can clip it to the down-rigger ball, add it as a hook-less cheater to your down rigger cable.    Clip it to your planar board when the salmon are near the surface.   There are countless ways to use this to disperse scent where you are fishing.   Each Scent-Troll™ comes in a package of two, a primary and a secondary.  When used with the School O'Smelt™ troll, the primary can go between the weight and the School O'Smelt™, while the secondary can attach to the end of the School O'Smelt™ (this is what that last loop is for).  With the School O'Smelt™, you can use 1 or 2 Scent-Trolls™ with it. 

Most importantly, each Scent-Troll™ comes in a reusable zippered bag to keep the mess and smell contained and away from the rest of your gear.

Our trolling spoons have been developed with size and color in mind.   Unlike other spoons, we specify the blade length to distinguish the size.  Each spoon is offered in the 5 Winni-Troll™ colors.  For hooks, we have chosen VMC high quality treble hooks.  Each spoon has a premium nickel plating finish which offers good adherence during the taping process.   We also offer stainless steel split rings on both ends of the spoons. 

Our casting  spoons have been developed to offer the angler additional versatility.   The extra thickness of the spoon allows for weight for casting and sinking which now offers you to cover more water than just trolling alone.   These spoons are offered in the  5 Winni-Troll™ colors.  For hooks, we have chosen VMC high quality treble hooks.  Each spoon has a premium nickel plating finish which offers good adherence during the taping process.   We also offer stainless steel split rings on both ends of the spoons. 

The 2.00 inch Sunset Smelt is the exact opposite to the Unique Smelt - it has a ton of motion and as a result has much less durability.   Unlike the Unique Smelt, the Sunset Smelt is aimed at catching trout, and lots of them - especially Rainbow Trout.   Each Sunset Smelt has a wondrous balance of colors and flash to offer a very imitating and enticing bait.   We like to troll them on trout ponds and lakes and to cast them in rivers for trophy fish.    By using a variety of cheek feathers and prismatic eyes, we find that this is our favorite pattern to tie and to fish.   We also offer the Llama Flash Kit which is used to tie the Sunset Smelt. 

The 2.50 inch Peril Smelt is another concept fly that was developed to work as a down rigger fly in concert with an Action Disc or behind a dodger.  In addition to this use, we have also enjoyed using this fly for bass on a float-n-fly rig.  It also has merit in saltwater as well.    The contrasting flash in this fly finally offers spinner-bait type results when fly fishing for Largemouth bass too.   However, our favorite use is trolling for landlocked salmon on a jigging box.   The takes are from quality fish and they are solid.

The 2.50 inch Thunder Smelt is a version of the Thunder Creek smelt but on a shorter hook.  We also use non-yellowing epoxy for the head.  With prismatic eyes and subtle flash, we love this fly for almost any situation.   It was developed for trout ponds and lakes where fast stripping over the springs using full sinking line tends to catch quality trout.   This fly is great for rivers and also for trolling.   We only use the highest quality bucktail on these flies.

The 3.00 inch Chum Smelt was developed with an artistic flair combining handcrafted lure making and fly tying together.   Using new gel bodied materials and flash foils, we have created a perfect fly to be fished slow.   We wanted to mimic the success of sewn on smelt in an artificial lure or fly.   The result is the Chum smelt.   The segmented tail is the key to its success, providing a very suggestive motion of an injured smelt perhaps one injured during a feeding frenzy.   Often the largest fish will wait for these morsels of chum to drift down, where they economically feast on the energy of the smaller aggressive slashing fish.   Try one today.

The 3.50 inch Unique Smelt was developed for durability and a slim profile.   The drawback of the durable hair fibers is less movement.  This is why we recommend a jigging box or line puller apparatus while trolling.   If casting, this fly is a very good fast water and ocean fly, perfect for salmon and stripers.    Its durability is needed as we have witnessed very hard and aggressive takes with the Unique Smelt.  Depending upon the size of the bait fish, the Unique Smelt is versatile as if can be trimmed by cutting each fiber to an offset length.   Try one and witness the unique features of this fly.
