Ice

Fishing through the ice is in itself a very different method of fishing than open water.   Location, barometric pressure, and lunar tables have a greater affect in ice fishing.  Since presentation and speed are nullified in ice fishing, fishermen relinquish more control and rely on the laws of nature to help encourage feeding activity.

Primary quarry for ice fishing include rainbow trout, lake trout, cusk, and perch.  Pickerel and bass are also targeted but less for table fare than the first list.  The most popular methods of fishing is jigging and set lines with both live and dead bait.

Portable ice shelters offer much more portability and ice access than in the past.  When venturing out on the ice, make sure you are on safe ice and don't let the quest for a few fish jeopardize you life.  Always use common sense when ice fishing.
