River
River fishing is quite exciting depending upon the river you choose. The water body at the head of the river often defines the type of fishing at least for the first stretch of the river. A pond or lake stocked with trout will most likely see the inlet and outlets also stocked with trout due to easy access of stocking and fishing.
Rivers offer great shore fishing. Some rivers with dams and manmade structures offer very deep water accessible by shore. Wading also is a popular method of reaching deeper water. In any case, rivers must always be respected as conditions can change quickly and can be very dangerous.
Fishing conditions also change based upon fishing pressure, recently fallen precipitation, water temperature, and unfortunately wastewater treatment plant effluents. It is the latter reason why we believe most rivers are catch and release as soon as they pass through a municipality.
Rivers can offer fascinating float fishing trips in canoes, kayaks, and pontoon boats offering a wonderful day long adventure on the water. Like most water bodies, 80% of the fish are concentrated in 20% of the water. Active fish will cruise throughout the river when feeding but when they are holding, fish congregate in cooler and protected water in the river. Find these areas and you will be rewarded.
