Kid's Fishing Derby/ School-O-Smelt Troll
“On July 7th, I ran a fundraiser for my friend's boy, Kyle Robinson, who drowned while fishing a few years ago. It includes a
small fishing derby for the kids of my campground and food and raffles afterward. While attending the spring gathering of Winnipesaukee anglers to receive donations for the gathering, Chris Chapman introduced himself and offered
to donate his time at my fundraiser to teach the kids, as well as adults, to tie flies.
I can't say enough about this man. He set up five or six vices and taught group after group of kids how to tie flies. He had the kids
engaged and glued to every word he said. His knowledge and especially his patience was a pleasure to watch. He is a true ambassador of the sport. I strongly recommend him to anyone that is having any type of gathering that includes
kids. The girls were just as interested as the boys. Kudos to you, Chris. Thank you again. You made Kyle's parents very happy.
I would also like to say something about Chris' School-O-Smelt troll. We went out one
morning for a few hours to troll for some salmon and Chris put a School-O-Smelt troll on each rigger. He mentioned to me how my lake, Ossipee, was a bit more. turbid than Winnipesaukee. He suggested we put a chartreuse-colored
School-O-Smelt troll on the rigger. In ten minutes, Chris caught a 3-3.5 lb Lake Trout.
I've been fishing Ossipee steadily for eight years and have NEVER caught a Laker. I've heard a few rumors of lakers caught years
ago, but most everyone I talk to says there aren't any in the lake. I keep in contact with NH Fisheries Biologist, John Viar, and give him fishing updates on my lake. There aren't many Lakers in the lake due to it being mostly
sand, with hardly any rocky shoals for them to spawn. I catch plenty in Winni, but never in Ossipee. His Laker was a direct result of his set-up. The School-O-Smelt troll is very high quality. Yesterday I was up my camp and set up a
School-O-Smelt troll and a Sutton 61 spoon. I got 6 salmon in 3 hours.”

(Joe, thank you very much for the kind words. It was a pleasure to support the event and I do wish that the circumstances were different. I thank you for showing my family and I the true meaning of giving through all that you do for the Robinson family. - Chris)
