Trolling
The process of moving lures, flies, and bait through the water column in search of fish is trolling. This can be a very effective method of fishing new water bodies especially in concert with a fish finder.
In large bodies of water or while fishing for fast swimming fish such as salmon, trolling is a way to try and intercept and increase the statistics of hooking up. Likewise, bait fish are also moving and trolling allows you to follow these bait pods.
Deep trolling is a very effective technique where you keep the lure at a depth where the fish are located. This could be bouncing the bottom, in the thermocline, or bumping humps. There is no better way to fish the zone than trolling.
Another key to trolling is the spread of lures. You can vary action, color, and movement to see what combination elicits strike at the current conditions. An experience troller can catch a lot of fish in a single outing.
